Southaven Mayor and Board of Aldermen Review City Updates and Funding Initiatives
The Southaven Board of Aldermen approved a contract with CivicPlus to purchase ADA-compliant software for the city’s website. The Home2 Suites design review for the location at Getwell and Wildflower was also approved.
Mayor Musselwhite, Aldermen Payne and Flores attended a congressional briefing in Washington, D.C., where they met with Senators Smith and Wicker and Representative Kelly. The officials discussed local issues, including the DCRUA sewer project, according to the mayor’s office.
The recent Mississippi legislative session concluded last week. Southaven’s tourism tax bill, which funds park enhancements, was extended to 2030. Additionally, the DCRUA received a $10 million allocation from the state.
Due to a sales tax diversion error, the city was refunded $2.3 million from the state. The mayor’s office also thanked Representative Hall for securing $750,000 for the West End District redevelopment. Donations from Lucky Dog and Castle Retail were acknowledged for supporting the city’s animal shelter.
The Board of Aldermen meets on the first and third Tuesdays of each month. Citizens are encouraged to attend in person or watch the livestream. Updates are available on the city’s YouTube channel and mayor’s blog.
