Rust College choir earns top honor at Italian vocal competition
April 15, 2025 – Rust College’s World Renowned A’Cappella Choir won a Silver Performance Award—the top award granted in their category—at the Annual Verona International Choral Festival, held in Verona, Italy.
“I am immensely proud of our students,” said Choir Director Dr. Karl Twyner, Rust’s Dean of Humanities and Music Department Chair.
“They worked diligently to prepare for this once-in-a-lifetime experience. Through it, they gained international exposure for themselves and the College, received valuable feedback from world-class judges, and created lifelong memories.”
The choir’s performance included a polyphonic selection, a classical period selection, spirituals, and a selection of choice.
Through this friendly competition sponsored by the Association of Choirs of Northern Italy, Rust students connected and performed with students from all over the world. They also enjoyed the sights and sounds of Verona, best known as the setting for Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet.”
The World Renowned A’Cappella Choir has consistently demonstrated exceptional musical talent and cultural significance. Known for its diverse repertoire—encompassing major works, anthems, and spirituals—the choir’s rich history dates back to the early 1930s.
