Rep. Rodney Hall endorses Stevenson for State Senate
July 7, 2025 – The Republican primary race for Senate District 1 between incumbent state Sen. Michael McLendon (R-Hernando) and challenger Jon Stevenson received another endorsement today, as a current state legislator voiced his support.
Stevenson’s campaign Monday released a statement from current state Rep. Rodney Hall (R-Southaven) that endorsed Stevenson in the primary race.
Hall, who previously worked with Rep. Trent Kelly (R-Miss.) in Congress and in January will enter his second year as a state lawmaker, said Stevenson provides “smart, strategic leadership to the government working together for our communities.”
“DeSoto County is a driving force in Mississippi, and Jon Stevenson brings both real-world experience and a clear grasp of the challenges ahead,” Hall said. “His business acumen, grit, and understanding of our county’s needs make him exactly the kind of leader we need in the Mississippi Senate.”
Hall credited Stevenson with being a valuable partner in delivering wins for DeSoto County, “and I’m confident he’ll strengthen our delegation and our impact at the state Capitol.”
The campaign between Stevenson and McLendon is among the primary votes scheduled for Aug. 5 as part of the special Senate elections mandated by a three-judge federal panel. The judge mandated special elections in DeSoto County Senate districts as a result of a successful lawsuit by the state NAACP. That group sued, saying the districts drawn did not allow for equal representation for African-Americans.
Monday was the last day to register to vote in the Aug. 5 primary. Saturday, Aug. 2 at 12 noon is the deadline day for in-person voting by absentee ballot ahead of the Aug. 5 primary election. Voting at the polls on Election Day is from 7 a.m.-7 p.m.
