Reeves Appoints Wayne Douglas Hollowell III as Circuit Judge in DeSoto County
JACKSON, Miss. — Gov. Tate Reeves has appointed Wayne Douglas “Doug” Hollowell III of Olive Branch as circuit judge for the 21st Circuit Court District, which covers DeSoto County. The appointment fills a newly created judicial position established by the Mississippi Legislature.
“Doug’s deep legal expertise, proven leadership, and unwavering commitment to justice makes him an outstanding choice for circuit judge,” Reeves said. “His appointment reflects my ongoing mission to ensure that Mississippi’s judiciary is led by honorable and trusted stewards of the law.”
Hollowell has served as Justice Court Judge for DeSoto County’s District 1 since 2021 and won re-election in 2023. He also serves as judge pro tem for Horn Lake and Walls municipal courts and as public defender for Byhalia Municipal Court.
His legal career spans both criminal and civil litigation, including experience as a prosecutor, public defender, and private attorney in business and personal injury defense cases. Hollowell has litigated in more than 30 counties across Mississippi and successfully argued before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. He was recognized as a Top Under 40 Attorney by the National Academy of Criminal Defense Attorneys.
A graduate of the University of Mississippi, Hollowell earned his law degree from the University of Miami School of Law.
His appointment begins Sept. 1 and he will serve the remainder of the four-year term ending Jan. 4, 2027.
