A pop up thunderstorm became severe as it struck and quickly left a part of Southaven Sunday afternoon.

The National Weather Service reported wind damage with several trees being reported down by wind gusts possibly as strong as 50 to 60 miles per hour about 2 p.m.

As a result, a special weather statement for wind up to 50 miles per hour was issued to be in effect until about 3:15 p.m.

The damage was mainly centered in the area of Hamilton Road and Airport industrial Drive near Stateline Road. The downed power pole and affected lines resulted in police closing access to Hamilton Road while repairs were being made.

Following are photos of the damage around Stateline Road and Hamilton Road Sunday evening.
