Panola County Sheriff’s Office launches special-needs program
The Panola County Sheriff’s Office announced the Special Needs Occupant Awareness Program to help first responders quickly identify homes and vehicles where individuals with special needs may live, the office said. Sheriff Shane Phelps introduced the program in honor of Autism Awareness Month, the office said.
The voluntary program allows residents to register emergency communication details and provide safety and calming information for responders, the sheriff’s office said. Qualified applicants will receive notification decals for their vehicles or homes.
The sheriff’s office said enrollment is optional and intended to give families a way to share helpful information with first responders if they choose. The office also thanked Latorria Cosia Moore and staff, April Casey and Kianna Thompson for their input and support.
Enrollment is open, the sheriff’s office said. For questions, residents may contact Amber Brown or Ashley Raines at 662-563-6230.
