Olive Branch mayor urges residents to call 811 before digging

Olive Branch Mayor Ken Adams urged residents to call 811 before digging, saying yellow flags and yellow line marks help identify where underground utility lines lie and help prevent accidents.

“These markings help protect the people and places our community cares about,” Adams said. He noted that April is National Safe Digging Month but added that safe digging practices apply year-round.

Mississippi 811, Inc. provides an interactive resource explaining the different colors used to mark utilities, the organization says. The resource is available at https://www.ms811.org/marking_examples/IdentifyUtilitiesColor.html.

Adams and Mississippi 811, Inc. urged residents to call 811 before digging to avoid damage to underground lines and reduce the risk of accidents.
