New traffic signal installation underway

Crews are currently installing new traffic lights at the intersection of Pleasant Hill Road and McIngvale/Swinnea Roads — a location that has seen numerous crashes over the years.

Beginning Friday, the signals will flash red in all directions. Treat the lights as a four-way stop throughout the weekend. The traffic lights will become fully operational on Monday.

“We promised it would be done before the the new Hernando High School started classes,” says DeSoto County Road Manager Bob Jarman. “I want to thank the crews for helping make that happen.”

This is a joint project between DeSoto County Supervisors and the City of Hernando to improve safety and traffic flow in a rapidly growing area.

“The Board of Supervisors appreciate Bob Jarman for taking the lead on this project,” said Supervisor Lee Caldwell, whose district includes the intersection. “This light installation is just one of many projects our Road Department is working on as part of our ongoing commitment to make DeSoto County roads safer.”

Mayor Chip Johnson added, “We want to thank drivers for their patience and cooperation during construction.”
