New Horn Lake Animal Shelter leadership named, Wallace new Public Works Director
HORN LAKE, Miss.—The Horn Lake Animal Shelter has officially moved to stabilize its leadership following a turbulent month, with the new Director and Assistant Director being formally approved at Tuesday night’s Board of Aldermen meeting.
Items to approve the hiring of Alexis D. Sullivan as the Animal Shelter Director and promote Cindy White to Assistant Animal Shelter Director were part of the Consent Agenda part of the board meeting.
Alderman Jackie Bostick moved to take the items, along with another item to hire Brandon Wallace as Public Works Director, off the Consent Agenda and move them into executive session.
Once the board returned from executive session, the motion to approve Sullivan as director came on a 6-1 vote, with Bostick voting against it. Motions to promote White and to hire Wallace in the Public Works department both passed without opposition.
The search for new Animal Shelter leadership began after the abrupt and controversial firings of former Director Glenn Andrews and Assistant Director Sonia Forgacz back in September.
Aldermen at that time voted to dismiss the pair following a lengthy executive session, but offered no public comment on the specific reasons for their removal, citing personnel matters.
Andrews reportedly suggested that his termination was tied to allegations of mishandled funds involving an unauthorized PayPal account used for shelter donations. He insisted all donations were documented but believed the new administration was made “uneasy” by the situation.
The dismissals shocked many in the community, which had voiced significant public support for Andrews. During his tenure, he was widely praised for his efforts to improve the facility, including:
- A New Facility: Overseeing the design and opening of the new, $6 million shelter in June 2025.
- Programs: Working to maintain the shelter’s no-kill status and implementing new outreach initiatives.
