Nail Road extension approved, Getwell widening nearly complete
Sept. 20, 2024 – Look for a road construction project to start that will extend travel on Nail Road in Southaven from Tchulahoma Road to its current dead end west of Getwell Road.
Aldermen approved the lowest and best bid of more than $4.71 million for the project during its recent meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 17.
“This project is a key component to our comprehensive transportation grid improvement plan as it will facilitate development in this heavy economic demand area and relieve traffic congestion on Getwell Road,” said Mayor Darren Musselwhite in a Mayor’s Report blog post.
Musselwhite said the city is not footing the entire cost of the project, as private developers are providing half of the construction and design costs.
The roadway will be three lanes of roadway with curb and gutter. There will also be space for pedestrian path extensions and for traffic lights at the proposed Nail Road-Tchulahoma intersection.
Look for construction to start in December with a completion date for November of next year.
Southaven city officials have also announced the widening project on Getwell Road south of Church Road is nearly completed.
Officials have released a timeline for the final phase of the work on the roadway with paving from Church to Starlanding Road.
By Friday, Oct. 4, the entire project of four lanes with medians, turning lanes, and improved signals at College Road and Starlanding is expected to be complete. Cost of the project was estimated at about $14 million.
