McLaughlin Named CEO of YMCA of Memphis & the Mid-South
Aug. 20, 2025 – The YMCA of Memphis & the Mid-South has appointed Brian McLaughlin as its new president and chief executive officer, the organization announced Wednesday.
McLaughlin, who has served as the YMCA’s chief operating officer for the past several years, succeeds Jerry Martin, who retired after 44 years of service. McLaughlin brings 27 years of YMCA leadership experience to the role, including 11 years in Memphis.
“I am honored and humbled to step into this role at such a significant moment in the YMCA’s history,” McLaughlin said. “I look forward to working with our board, staff, and community partners to continue the Y’s powerful legacy of building stronger, healthier, and more connected communities.”
Board Chair Hope Sneed praised McLaughlin’s impact on the organization, noting his role in expanding services and programs. “Brian has been instrumental in the success of our organization,” Sneed said. “The Board is confident that his leadership, strategic thinking, and passion for our mission make him the ideal choice to lead our Association into the future.”
Founded nearly 170 years ago, the YMCA of Memphis & the Mid-South is the region’s largest provider of afterschool and youth programs. The nonprofit addresses community needs such as affordable childcare, youth crime intervention, child food insecurity, senior health education, workforce development, and water safety training.
Under McLaughlin’s leadership, the YMCA is preparing for several major projects, including new wellness and aquatics centers in Hernando, Mississippi, and Lakeland, Tennessee, as well as an Early Learning Center at BlueOval City in Stanton, Tennessee, developed in partnership with Ford Motor Company and Blue Oval SK.
“I am excited about our momentum and the opportunity we have to continue our tradition of service to youth and families across Memphis and the Mid-South,” McLaughlin said.
