Hernando to consider renaming downtown street for Charlie Kirk
HERNANDO, MS — A proposal to rename a prominent street in Hernando in honor of conservative activist Charlie Kirk will be introduced at Tuesday’s Board of Aldermen meeting, according to Alderman Kit Kitchens.
Proposal to Celebrate Civic Legacy
Kitchens says the motion aims to recognize Kirk’s impact on public discourse, faith, and respectful debate. The proposed renaming would make Hernando one of the first cities in the nation to permanently honor Kirk’s legacy.
“Charlie Kirk was a one-of-a-kind individual who loved the Lord, stood firm in his beliefs, and showed us how to debate with conviction, respect, and peace,” said Kitchens.
Streets Under Consideration
Center Street and Losher Street—both central to Hernando’s town square—are among the options Kitchens will suggest. He emphasized that community feedback will help determine the final choice.
“Like Charlie would want, I want to hear from the people of Hernando,” Kitchens said. “Your feedback will help guide me as I bring this motion forward.”
Hernando Joins National Effort
Kitchens noted that similar efforts are underway in Florida and South Carolina, positioning Hernando as a potential leader in commemorating Kirk’s influence.
“Let’s come together and make history by recognizing a man who inspired countless Americans to speak boldly, stand firmly, and engage respectfully,” Kitchens added.
Meeting Details
The Board of Aldermen meeting will be held Tuesday night at Hernando City Hall, starting at 6 p.m. Residents are encouraged to attend and share their views.
