Hernando police called about possible shots fired at individuals

Hernando police were called Saturday, May 17 to investigate a complaint of men in a car firing from an unknown firearm at individuals holding signs on the side of the road. It has been determined if bullets or other projectiles were fired at the group.

The men, described as white males in a black passenger car, approached the group who were in the area of East Commerce Street and McCracken Road. Officers were dispatched there about 2:30 p.m. Saturday on a complaint saying the men fired at them. The officers spoke with several people there and were able to identify a suspect vehicle from the information they received. At least two people said they were struck by something fired at them but not bleeding resulted.

Police determined the suspect vehicle and two juvenile suspects. The owner of the vehicle was contacted and the juveniles, along with their parents, were called into the police department where an incident report was completed. Police say one “Orbeez” or “gel blaster” toy gun was located inside the vehicle.

All parties involved in this incident have not fully been identified; therefore, the investigation is still on-going.
