Desoto County urges Olive Branch residents to prepare for spring storms

Desoto County Emergency Services urged Olive Branch residents Tuesday to take steps now to prepare for possible severe spring weather, the agency said in a post.

The agency advised residents to review their severe weather safety plans with family, identify a safe place in the home such as a lowest interior room away from windows, charge phones and backup batteries, check flashlight batteries, and pack an emergency storm kit that includes charging cables and necessary medicine.

Desoto County Emergency Services also recommended securing outdoor furniture and trash cans and making sure residents can receive weather alerts overnight. The post said residents can sign up for emergency alerts specific to Olive Branch by texting “olivebranch” to 888777.

The post cautioned that “a watch means conditions are possible. A warning means take action immediately!” The message was signed by Olive Branch Mayor Ken Adams, the Olive Branch Police Department and the Olive Branch Fire Department, the agency said.
