DeSoto County to Host Dedication Ceremony for Veterans Memorial on July 4th

July 2, 2025 – In a heartfelt tribute to the brave men and women who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, DeSoto County will host a dedication ceremony for its new Veterans Memorial on Friday, July 4 at 9 a.m. The public is invited to attend the event, which will take place on the south side of the County Courthouse Square in Hernando.

The memorial stands as a permanent symbol of gratitude, honoring the service and sacrifice of DeSoto County’s veterans across all branches of the military — including the U.S. Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Space Force.

Officials say the memorial and its dedication ceremony are meant to remind the community of the enduring contributions veterans have made to the nation’s freedom and security. Attendees will gather under the banner, “Honoring the Service and Sacrifice of our Veterans,” which reflects the purpose and spirit behind the project.

The ceremony coincides with Independence Day celebrations, providing a meaningful opportunity for citizens to reflect on the true cost of freedom. Veterans, families, civic leaders, and community members are expected to attend.

For those looking to celebrate the Fourth of July with reverence and respect, the dedication of the DeSoto County Veterans Memorial offers a moment to remember and honor America’s heroes.
