DeSoto County Schools among best employers in state
A DeSoto County employer remains on a list of top employers in Mississippi, according to a new report from Forbes, the fifth annual Best Employers By State listing from the publication.
The DeSoto County School District (DCS) is ranked 10th among best employers in the Magnolia State. Forbes indicates that DCS has 4,165 employees and the new list puts the district in the same conversation as NASA, Mississippi State and MGM Grand Resorts.
The only other public school district included in the 18-employer listing for Mississippi is the Rankin County School District at number 17.
The results came after Forbes surveyed about 70,000 employees at companies with a minimum of 500 employees across the country, including the District of Columbia.
“Participants were asked if they would recommend their employer to others, and to evaluate their employer based on working conditions, diversity, compensation packages, potential for development, company image and more,” according to Forbes. “Participants also assessed employers beyond their own. All surveys were anonymous to encourage candor.”
The number one employer in Mississippi was the NASA Stennis Space Center, followed by Mississippi State University. The Huntington Ingalls Shipyard in Pascagoula was third, followed by MGM Resorts-Beau Rivage and Caterpillar.
Forbes pointed out that none of the employers paid a fee to be included on the list.
