DeSoto County DA seeks no bond for man accused in Horn Lake shooting
DeSoto County District Attorney Matthew Barton said his office filed a petition asking a court to deny bond for Taderius Young, 22, of Horn Lake, after a shooting earlier this week at Discount Market at 3340 Goodman Road.
Barton said Young was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault in connection with the shooting. He is being held at the DeSoto County Adult Detention Center, the DA’s office said.
The DA’s office said Young also faces an auto burglary charge from a separate incident that was secured by a secret indictment in February. The state is arguing that Young poses a special danger to the community under Article 3, Section 29 of the Mississippi Constitution and should be held without bond.
“Young has made it abundantly clear that our community isn’t safe without him in custody,” Barton said. He said his office “will pursue every available legal avenue to ensure violent offenders are held accountable and kept off the streets,” and added, “Let this be a message to violent criminals. We don’t play here. If you bring violence into our community, we will find you, we will charge you, and, as Young is about to find out, we are going to aggressively prosecute you.”
The case was investigated by the Horn Lake Police Department, the DA’s office said. Barton said further details will be released as the case progresses.
