DeSoto County bids farewell to longtime administrator Vanessa Lynchard

HERNANDO, Miss. – The final DeSoto County Board of Supervisors meeting of 2025 was marked by both reflection and celebration as the county honored Vanessa Lynchard on her retirement after three decades of public service.

Lynchard, who has served as the DeSoto County Administrator since 2012, participated in her last official meeting Tuesday, bringing a 30-year career with the county to a close. Her departure marks a significant transition for one of Mississippi’s fastest-growing regions.

A Legacy of Stability and Growth

Lynchard began her journey with DeSoto County in 1995. Over the last 13 years as Administrator, she became a fixture of local governance, navigating the complexities of rapid suburban expansion while maintaining fiscal discipline.

Under her guidance, the Board of Supervisors successfully managed massive infrastructure demands and budgetary shifts. One of Lynchard’s most notable achievements was her role in helping the county maintain a steady millage rate, ensuring that residents saw consistent tax levels even as the county’s population and service needs surged.

“Vanessa’s leadership and deep institutional knowledge have been the backbone of our operations,” the Board noted during the session. “Her commitment to this county has left an indelible mark that will be felt for years to come.”

New Leadership for 2026

As Lynchard prepares for her well-earned retirement, the county has looked within its own ranks to ensure a smooth transition. Andrea Pettigrew has been named the new DeSoto County Administrator, effective January 2026.

Pettigrew is a familiar face in county administration, having served as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) since 2015. Her decade of experience managing the county’s finances is expected to provide continuity and stability as DeSoto County enters its next chapter of development.

The community and county staff expressed their deep gratitude to Lynchard for her 30 years of dedication and extended a warm welcome to Pettigrew as she prepares to take the helm in the new year.
