Redford, born Aug. 18, 1936, in Santa Monica, California, was an acclaimed actor, director, producer, and activist whose career spanned more than six decades. He rose to stardom in classics like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Sting, All the President’s Men, and Out of Africa, and earned an Academy Award for directing Ordinary People. Beyond Hollywood, he was a passionate advocate for independent filmmaking, founding the Sundance Institute and the Sundance Film Festival, and he championed environmental and conservation causes throughout his life. He died in his sleep at his home in Sundance, Utah, surrounded by family.
DAI officials said the evening is meant to bring film enthusiasts together while celebrating Redford’s enduring legacy on screen.
