June 13, 2025 – Democrats Friday released a list of their candidates in the Aug. 5 primary election for state Senate. Friday was the day the names of qualifying candidates needed to be sent to the state Secretary of State’s office for placement on the primary ballot.
Here is the list of candidates provided for the Democratic primary:

Hanna will advance to the November general election to face either state Sen. Michael McLendon or Jon Stevenson in Senate District 1. The winner of the three-candidate District 2 primary will face Southaven alderman Charlie Hoots in November. In District 11, which includes DeSoto County, either state Sen. Reginald Jackson or challenger Abe Hudson Jr. will be paired against Republican Kendall Prewett. And in District 19, Black challenges incumbent state Sen. Kevin Blackwell in November as both candidates have no primary opposition.
