Conservatives honor Charlie Kirk with billboards in DeSoto County
HERNANDO, Miss. — Supporters of conservative activist Charlie Kirk unveiled a billboard Monday in DeSoto County, marking the beginning of a countywide effort to publicly honor his legacy.
The first display went live on Interstate 55 near the Landers Center, funded by a group of conservatives and local residents who said they wanted to ensure Kirk’s message continues to resonate in North Mississippi.
The billboard campaign comes just days after the Hernando Board of Aldermen voted down a proposal to formally honor Kirk within city limits by naming a street in Kirk’s name. In response, his supporters moved quickly to organize a private effort to celebrate his life and work.
Kirk, founder of the national youth organization Turning Point USA, has mentored and inspired conservative students across the country, including many in DeSoto County. During last week’s board meeting, one student shared how Kirk’s guidance shaped his outlook and leadership.
John Williams, who organized the community fundraising push, said the turnout reflects Kirk’s far-reaching impact.
“What the Hernando Aldermen rejected, the people of DeSoto County and America are embracing,” Williams said. “Charlie Kirk touched the lives of students right here in our community and across America. These billboards are a reminder that his message of faith, freedom, and conservative values lives on.
Organizers say additional billboard locations and banners are expected across the county in the coming weeks. A second billboard has gone live on I-55 southbound just south of Goodman Rd by Delta Technical College. Several banners are expected to go up around the county in the coming days, as well.
