Citizens Police Academy tours Southaven Fire Department training center
Members of the Southaven Police Department’s Citizens Police Academy visited the Southaven Fire Department Training Center Monday night to see fire and emergency medical services operations, the Southaven Fire Department said in a post.
The department said participants were briefed on its history and growth, personnel and apparatus, and the range of fire and EMS emergencies crews respond to. The group also learned about specialty roles within the department and community programs focused on fire and life safety, the post said.
Following a classroom session, crews led apparatus tours so visitors could see trucks, tools and equipment up close. Firefighters closed the evening with a simulated vehicle fire using training props and demonstrated how crews safely extinguish a car fire during an emergency response, the department said.
The program and demonstrations were led by Malena Alderman, public fire and life safety educator and public information officer, and Lt. Tyler Henley, training officer, the post said. The department thanked members of the Citizens Police Academy and the Station 1 B Shift crew for participating and conducting the demonstrations.
