A new primary care clinic has opened in Southaven with People First Primary and Urgent Care at 176 Goodman Rd West. The Southaven Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting event and toured the new clinic Thursday afternoon.

People First Urgent & Primary Care is a full-service medical practice offering both urgent and primary care services. Their services include physical exams, allergy testing, and treatment for non-life-threatening conditions such as flu, colds, sprains, and closed fractures.

It is one of five clinics in the Mid-South, along with Germantown, Collierville, Millington and Bartlett.

Dr. Hamad Ahmad, MD, and Mariam Ayyeh, PA, opened the first clinic in Millington and has since expanded the practice with the Southaven clinic being the first in DeSoto County.

Ahmad notes there was an urgent care clinic in the space at one time, but its closure made the space available.  Prime Urgent Medical Clinic closed at the location in August.

Ahmad said he discovered a need for a clinic as he did research for a new location.

“I found an opportunity here to provide good care for those patients without health insurance,” Ahmad said. “I’ve gotten more self-pay patients without health insurance here in the first two months than I had in any other of my clinics over a year’s time when I first opened.”

Ahmad said he completed his training in New York as a family medicine physician, and then I came to Memphis for an ER fellowship. He worked as an ER physician for about a year at Methodist North Hospital.

He said he noticed a need for a primary care clinic and that is what led him to open the Millington clinic, which took place during the COVID-19 pandemic.

People First offers a wide range of services, ranging from primary care, urgent care, COVID-19 vaccines, boosters and testing, physical therapy, X-Ray, ultrasound, allergy testing, weight loss, cariology, and occupational health.

Clinic hours are Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturday until 5 p.m., and closed on Sunday.  Learn more by visiting the People First Urgent and Primary Care website.
