Business beat: Horn Lake Chamber celebrates award winners

The Horn Lake Chamber of Commerce held its annual awards dinner at the Red Barn near Hernando on Thursday evening, honoring business and civic leaders for their contributions to the community during the past year.

Set with a 1950’s sock hop theme, the evening featured dinner served by First Choice Catering and Chef Jim Chandler, followed by the awards program, dancing and a silent auction.

Named Man of the Year was Horn Lake Fire Chief David Linville of A1 Fire Protection, who has been fire chief for Horn Lake and Lewisburg the past 22 years.

Selected as Woman of the Year was Kirby Carter, an advocate for children with special needs and a volunteer in support of the community. Carter is also a member of the Horn Lake Planning Commission.

The Jones Family Fish Room Aquatics was named the Small Business of the Year. Started as a hobby several years ago, it grew to a point of becoming a business in Horn Lake.

The Business of the Year was announced as Texas Roadhouse, which offers fundraising opportunities for local nonprofits, schools, and causes, supporting every community in DeSoto County.

Named the Business on the Move was Angela Kidd Insurance, which started about two-and-a-half years ago and has grown tremendously during that time. Kidd was also named Ambassador of the Year.

DeSoto County Dream Center was named the Nonprofit of the Year. Based in Horn Lake, the Dream Center offers the basic neccessities of food, education, clothing and healthcare.

Campus president Tom Pullin and Delta Technical College were given the Spirit of Horn Lake award. The college gives to the community and surrounding areas through sponsorships, community service, and hosting events to benefit nonprofit organizations.
