Mar 20, 2025 – The Mississippi Senate, led by Senator Dr. David Parker, on Thursday honored the heroic actions of DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Brian Brock with Senate Resolution 93, for sacrificing himself and his patrol vehicle to stop a speeding wrong-way driver from crashing into oncoming traffic and hurting others on the night of March 4 on I-269, after which he was hospitalized.
Sgt. Brock drove his vehicle into the path of the oncoming car, took the impact head on, and saved the man behind him, a doctor who later said, “That deputy was an angel. My life flashed in front of me, and I closed my eyes. When I opened them, I saw that deputy’s car.”
DeSoto County Sens. Kevin Blackwell (R-Southaven) and Michael McLendon (R-Hernando) were among the other co-sponsors of the Senate resolution.
A similar resolution, House Resolution 87, sponsored by state Rep. Rodney Hall (R-Southaven) was also presented and passed by the House of Representatives.
