May 18, 2025 – The City of Olive Branch on Facebook Sunday reported that its beloved supercentenarian has passed away.

Elizabeth Wiseman died at the age of 110 Saturday morning, the post said. Wiseman was a lifelong resident of Olive Branch with deep community ties. She recently celebrated her 110th birthday in May and Mayor Ken Adams had the opportunity to visit with her at that time.

She was the second-oldest known living Mississippian when her 110th birthday was reached, second only to Mary Lois Burkett, who celebrated her 110th birthday on Jan. 2, 2024. Born at Hattiesburg in 1914, Burkett has been a lifelong resident of that city.

Born on Feb. 28, 1915, to Clufus Woods and Delia Watson, Wiseman was the fourth of seven children. In 1936, Elizabeth married Walter Wiseman. Together, they raised seven children—four daughters and three sons. By age 105, her family had grown to include 28 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great-grandchildren. Her marriage to Walter lasted over 65 years until his passing in 2002.

“Mrs. Wiseman will be greatly missed by everyone who had the honor of knowing her,” the city’s post read. “We respectfully ask that you keep the Wiseman family in your thoughts and prayers as well.”
