One of the events to help celebrate the Fourth of July will return again this year. Carolyn Young with the Optimists Club of Hernando says the annual Fourth of July Children’s Bike Parade is set for July 2.

The starting point for the parade will be the Hernando Baptist Church parking lot, at 11 E. Center Street. Starting at 6:30 p.m., members of the Hernando Police Department will be on hand to hand out new bike helmets and give bike safety instructions to the kids who take part.

The parade of bicycles steps off at 7 p.m. head west of Commerce Street and around the Courthouse Square, then returning back to the church parking lot.

“We encourage the decorating of bikes, trikes, scooters and participants in patriotic decor,” said Young. “Parents, grandparents and friends are welcome to accompany the children in the Parade.”

This is a bicycle-only event with no motorized bikes or scooters allowed. All bike riders must wear a helmet to take part.  In case of inclement weather, the parade will be canceled and not rescheduled.
